Description
For college we had to do a shoot on gender stereotyping and the power issues that are involved.
This was my concept.
Here is my reason for shooting the photograph the way I did:
I wanted to capture a typical 1960’s, lower class husband and wife to portray my stereotypical gender image and to show the power issues between the two. I was inspired by David Goldblatt’s photography, Family at Lunch, and decided I was going to use this image as my reference image. I wanted to portray a husband to be someone who is strong and in charge of the household. The wife, I wanted to portray as someone who is meek, submissive and overall the good house wife. For these reasons, I chose for the husband to be sitting at the table waiting for his dinner while he over sees his wife as she is mixing the dinner, making sure she’s doing a good job. I chose not to use flash and instead use a high ISO as I wanted to have an older, darker and grainier feel to my image and choosing to rather stick to the natural light to capture more emotion. I also decided to make my colouring look slightly faded and washed out to give it an older feel.
Models: Jami and Ashlea.

Thank you to all that favourite my work.
